Long Island Restaurant Open on Christmas Day

Although the vast majority of restaurants are closed on Christmas Day, there are a surprising amount that will be hosting patrons. In fact, many offer prix fixe menus and are decked out in festive decorations. These four great restaurants are open for business on December 25th.

Ben's Kosher Deli

If for some reason, you wake up on Christmas morning with an insatiable craving for a deli sandwich, you’re in luck! Ben’s Kosher Deli has three locations throughout Long Island and is open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Standout sandwiches include overstuffed hot pastrami, hanger steak open-style, and Rueben panini. Terrific sides include the potato pancake and spinach knishes. Ben’s also offers an extensive soup selection and vegetarian options.

The Onion Tree

A husband and wife team run this terrific modern Indian spot. Every week, fun events are held at The Onion Tree, such as taco Tuesday and the Sunday bottomless brunch, featuring delicious menu selections and unlimited bloody Marys, mimosas, screwdrivers and bellinis. On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, The Onion Tree will be serving its a la carte menu. Scrumptious dishes include Bombay gumbo, Darjeeling-sty;e short ribs, palak paneer pizza and spicy lamb curry. Baron's Cove

Baron’s Cove was built in the late 1950s, making it the first resort development in Sag Harbor. The gorgeous second-floor restaurant offers stunning views of the harbor. Long Island fare and ingredients from local farms and artisans are used in Executive Chef Nick Vogel’s kitchen. The four-course prix fixe ($110 per person, $30 for kids) will be held from 4 to 9:40 pm. Appetizers include goat cheese tartlet, shrimp cocktail and broiled oysters. Prime rib, glazed ham, crab cakes and pappardelle with chanterelles are the entree choices, and the seasonal dessert menu includes petit choux buns with espresso custard, bread pudding with bourbon caramel and last but not least, New York cheesecake. SaGhar is an Indian word that translates to English as “house of the sea.” The restro-bistro in Port Jefferson will be open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It’s a la carte menu creatively marries the rich delicacies of India (land and sea dishes) with the local Port Jefferson fare. Signature dishes include the daal maharani (mixed lentils, onion, tomato and cilantro), bhindi do pyaza (okra, onion, tomato and authentic Indian spices) and the prawns koliwada (tandoori jumbo prawns adorned with crabmeat, ginger garlic, chili, koliwada spice and tomato coconut chutney).
