Garden City

Long Island Restaurant Week: Nomiya

By: Leah Hatch

Nomiya, located in Garden City, New York, offers a modern take on traditional Japanese cuisine. With its minimalist design, featuring a hickory-accented bar and sleek black granite walls, the restaurant creates a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere. The name "Nomiya," which means "saloon" in Japanese, reflects its inviting vibe.

The menu, crafted by Chef James Choi, showcases a fusion of Japanese cuisine and Asian influences. Standout items include the Avocado Bomb, which features spicy tuna topped with avocado, and the Suffolk Roll, which combines yellowtail belly with a seven-spice sauce. The Nomiya Roll, with spicy lobster and its "dragon's breath" effect, is another crowd favorite.

To complement the meal, Nomiya offers an extensive selection of premium sake and inventive cocktails made with soju, Korea's national drink. Guests can also indulge in refreshing house-made sodas flavored with mandarin, lychee, or yuzu, making for a complete dining experience.
