The days are getting shorter and the weather is getting colder. This time of year is great for nights in under a cozy blanket and eating good food. Soups are always a great meal for a chilly day in the fall, so here are some soups on Long Island that are sure to hit the spot.

If you find yourself in the Garden City area, the NY Soup Exchange offers gourmet soups, salads, grain bowls, sandwiches and wraps. The restaurant is a standby counter-service joint that spices it up by dispensing a menu that changes daily. The artisan kitchen starts with only the freshest and finest all natural ingredients, as well as local and seasonal ingredients whenever possible. An example of some soups offered daily would be the specials for November 9th which are Split Pea, Grandma’s Chicken Noodle, Gulfport Gumbo, Velvet Chicken & Corn, and Chicken Marsala. Barrow Food House, located in Aquebogue, is a farm to table restaurant serving American cuisine. Owned and operated by husband-and-wife chef duo Amanda and Kyle, the team provides their customers with home cooked and delicious meals. Everything they serve is made from scratch and much of the produce used is sourced from their own Cedar Grove Farm which is right around the corner. Barrow is a fast casual restaurant offering counter service and serves lunch and dinner. Their fall soup is a Butternut Squash soup made with butternut squash, ginger, shallot, coconut milk, rosemary oil and pumpkin seeds. This is a vegan and gluten-free friendly soup that will satisfy cravings of all. A signature soup, Chicken Vegetable Orzo, is always available, but there are also daily specials available such as a Butternut Maple Bisque, French Onion with Gruyere Croustade or a Cream of Broccoli & Artichoke.
