REVIEW: The BBG

Steakhouses can be a dime a dozen when you're gallivanting around New York City, but when it comes to Long Island, finding a good one is tough. That's where The BBG comes in. A brand new steakhouse in Williston Park that not only adds a quality restaurant to your list of places to visit, but also excels in eminence and attention to detail in presentation, ambiance, and food quality.

The BBG, short for Butcher's Bar & Grill, is centrally located in Nassau County. Something that has been lacking for quite some time. While the interior makes you feel like you're in a restaurant off the coast of Greece, the food is American-focused, with choices like USDA Prime steaks, chops, and a few seafood offerings in between. Chef Oscar Martinez not only displays mastery in the quality of all his dishes, but also demonstrates depth in his range of dishes.

While it can't be found on the menu, the bone-in filet mignon can typically be found on the list of specials. If you've never experienced this particular cut, it combines the tenderness of a filet mignon and the juiciness of a ribeye (without being overly marbleized). The steak is flawlessly seasoned in a dry rub that does everything to your taste buds except overpower them.

If you're out of luck and can't get the bone-in filet, we highly suggest that you undo a button on your pants and treat yourself to their signature steak - a 42-ounce, long bone rib eye for two. A colossal, incredibly tender, Prime cut of meat that will leave you nothing short of satisfied. Looking to veer away from steak for the night? We got you. The "Murphy's Style" Double Cut Pork Chop is a great alternative. A massive, on-the-bone pork chop, topped with roasted red peppers, sausage, mushrooms and onions.

As usual, everything goes better with alcohol, and the wait-staff will make sure you're pleased with what is accompanying your meal. "The BBG's Signature" - Bulleit bourbon, Cointreau, thyme-honey, strawberries, and lemon juice is unique, refreshing, and the perfect start to the night. If it's a red wine you seek to go along with your steak, they offer Opus One by the glass if you're looking to splurge a little.

Butcher's Bar & Grill is convenient for Long Islanders and if they continue to put out a top-notch product like they are so far, they should be around for a long time.
